Parking lot sweeper tow behind vac vacuum ultra vac

Item- Tow behind parking lot sweeper
Condition- Good working order. Needs nothing. Ready to work!
Reason for selling- We rotate our equipment every few years. This one is in 100% working order and has been a backup the last several years. It has been replaced as the backup and is now for sale.
What is it?- This is a tow behind parking lot sweeper.
Features- This unit does have a curb broom.
There is nothing hidden with this sale. It is exactly as stated. I have nothing to hide, so feel free to call me, email me, or stop by and try it out. There is no catch. We are not closing our doors, not trying to sell some turd piece of equipment, and not trying to hide anything. This is simply what it is. We rotate our equipment every few years. Basically, once depreciated, our equipment will be rotated. We might keep it a year or so as a backup unit, but this one has been replaced as the backup. I have owned this for approximately 5 years. I have swept parking lots with it and my guys have used it. We have ran it anywhere from one night per week to seven nights per week. All maintenance has been done, and at any given time I would not hesitate to put it in the lineup to run the scheduled visits. The last few years this one has mainly been a backup during the week and goes out on the weekends when we have an extra unit running.
What does this machine need? Nothing other than a new home. We have upgraded several times, and with the last upgrade into newer equipment, this one lost it's position in the lineup as a backup/weekend machine. Within the last 2 years it has been repainted and had a new 18HP Honda engine on it. What maintenance is required you ask? Nothing major. Keep your air filter clean. Change your oil. Occasionally adjust the rubber flap or drag shoes on the pickup head. Occasionally replace a bulb in the taillights. Grease the bearings on the axle and grease the bearings which spin the shaft the fan is mounted to. You will occasionally have to adjust tension on the double vee belt which drives the fan off a pulley on the engine. This unit is about as basic as they come. Brilliant! There are very few parts which cannot be found locally at a Tractor Supply or local bearing distributor.
How does the curb broom work? Great! In all fairness, the picture shows it has been damaged. This has been this way the last 2-3 years but still performs it's duties in this condition. I never did get a straight answer on what happened to it and needless to say that employee is no longer with our company. It does function as designed though. The mechanical way it functions is simple too. There is a pulley on the main shaft. This pulley runs a belt which drives a hydraulic unit. There is a simple open/close valve to either engage or disengage the broom. When not in use, the curb broom is manually lifted off the ground and hooked to a piece which holds it off the ground. Simplistic!
Downsides of this machine- It is a bit heavy. 2200lbs empty. We pull ours with a Ford Ranger. Have used a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee when the Ranger is being serviced and it works, but is a bit heavy for regular usage. 1/2 ton trucks would work great too, but we have found the Ranger to be sufficient. I would NOT recommend using a 4 cyl engine in the truck though. A V-6 engine might be needed to pull it.
Being a tow behind unit, there are certainly going to be some places where it is a little tight. No big deal, just get out with a broom and dustpan, or pull the backpack/handheld blower out and reach the areas the sweeper cannot. In all fairness, our dedicated truck mounted sweepers have the same issues in the corners. There is no such thing as a zero turn radius truck to reach the corners.
Emptying the unit is a downside. In efforts to keep costs down, this does not self-dump. You will need to manually shovel out the debris at the start of the night. 10 minutes of shovel time and you are rolling. Is is nasty? Sometimes it is. Not going to lie to you. However, it is 10 minutes of the night, then you are off and working!
Rainy nights- These nights it does not pick up as well. There again, there are very few which DO pickup well in the rain. Some are better than others, but most sweepers lack in this area.
Rust- This is not stainless steel. The hopper is metal. We did repaint it within the last 2 years and it was not bad. Yes, there were a couple spots we had to wire wheel down and clean up. No we are not professional painters. I think it was done right and will last a long time. We did put several coats of primer and several coats of paint on this. It does not look like a luxery car paint job. However, it is a parking lot sweeper, not a Lexus. It sucks dirty diapers and trash off parking lots and gets dusty every night. In fact, I didn't even wash it for the photos. Gives you an honest look at it. To my knowledge, there are no known rust issues. We did have to fabricate the bottom door on this. Other than the door, the rest of the unit was in darn good shape. I am kinda proud of how the door turned out too! I don't think you would have noticed if I didn't tell you.
Fuel- This does have it's own fuel tank. You will have to climb up on the tongue of the trailer in order to fill the tank. Not a major downside, but something I want to make you aware of.
Positives- Where do I start and stop? There are many positives with this unit. The major positive I can think of is COST!!! This is about as cheap as they come. You will not find a truck mounted sweeper in this price range which is not WAAAAAAY outdated and in need of work or in need of CONSTANT maintenance. This is about as low maintenance as they get!
This is a regenerative air unit and the only mechanical sweeping you get is the curb broom. Designed with the same principles as many of the newer truck mounted sweepers.

In response to the question asked: Is the manufacturer still in business? I did some Google searching and looked up "Sweepster". They offer several varieties of tow behind sweepers. Most of these are designed for airport sweeping and towed behind a vehicle or towed behind a tractor with power supplied via PTO shaft. This model is what they called their "Tow-A-Vac" tow behind sweeper. Google "Sweepster Tow-A-Vac" and you can see what the unit looked like brand new from the manufacturer. Ours was painted red when purchased as well. Upon repainting, it seemed logical to paint a piece of equipment which operates at night in "safety yellow".
One other note, I do have a title for this piece of equipment verifying manufacture date 2000. This title was never put in my name as in the State of Ohio, commercial trailers under 4000 pounds do not require a title. The free and clear title will be provided in the sale. Put it in your name or leave it open. Doesn't make a difference to me. Thanks, Phil
