Here's something else you won't find at Walmart. This item was purchased at a lost freight sale earlier this year. It is brand new in the original factory box with the blue metal case and the complete pair of testing dies. Best I can determine, this set is used to verify/calibrate/adjust the crimping force exerted by the popular Thomas & Betts Model TBM14M hydraulic crimper. Seems like a lot of electricians and utility workers are real picky about such things.
Frankly, I don't see why this gauge couldn't be adapted to test all sorts of electrical crimpers - not just the TBM14M. After all, a ton is a ton, so with a bit of machining you could easily fabricate dies to fit crimpers, presses, etc. The gauge has scale markings up to about 22 tons, so you could weigh machinery, check tool forces, and test your hand strength; up to a maximum of about 44,000 pounds.
This is not exactly an item you can pick up one afternoon at the flea market. The average homeowner wouldn't really need one, which is good, because they list for over $2,000 each. On the other hand, if you own a large electrical company, a utility company, or if you service a lot of T&B tools for other people - here's a chance to save over a thousand bucks with the click of a mouse.
